The zebra plant (marantaceae) Calathea Medaillon
Light conditions: position in a warm spot with bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight will cause the leaves to fade and lose their markings. This plant is a native to the rainforest so can also cope with lower light conditions but will prefer some bright light.
Neediness: for this plant to look its best some care will be involved. Remove dust with a damp cloth to unblock pores. This will help the Plant breathe. Maintaining humidity is important, leaves will go brown at edges if it is not humid enough
Watering: wait until the top layer of soil is dry before watering. Do not over-water, soil should be moist and not soggy. Reduce the amount given during the winter months but do not let it dry out completely. Misting is really important for this plant and it will thrive when misted weekly or if planted in a pot with no drainage holes, mist more frequently.
Ideal location: bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, studies and corridors
Rate of growth: average
Temperature: avoid cold drafts and keep at a normal room temperature, do not let the temperature drop below 15°C.
Pets: this plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs.
